My Life with Criminals (formerly CFT)
What’s Going On in My World

So I have 2 announcements… First, I’m rewriting Colt Family Traitacy… and I’m rebranding it… as My Life with Criminals (MLC). Second, my Simself story – Livin’ A Simmin’ Life will receive a big overhaul, starting with the prequel: After Dark at Everglow Academy.
Rewriting/Editing
Why on earth…ahem! Simterra! would I rewrite stories when I have a million and one other stories already started? Well, I’m coming out of an unanticipated hiatus and a season of illness and family emergencies, and I realized I’m not feeling excited about my SimLit. I want to write the stories I want to write. I hate to feel like writing has become a chore.
I have suffered game losses and data corruption… and in the case of the Alliance of Magic a year of hard work. It’s hard to feel motivated. It’s hard not to feel depressed. Another story that has been lost along the way is Introvert’s Guide to the World (chapters are still available on my Sim Shorts page as The Continuing Adventures of Aspen Beckett). I’m sorry. 😥 I just don’t feel like recreating the sets and characters for her story/legacy. Maybe someday I’ll do a revamp/rewrite, but not now.
A few people have encouraged me not to do rewrites. Just to leave things as is. I’ve decided I can’t leave things be. I’m constantly improving, changing, challenging myself, and growing as a person and writer. As I continue to develop the world of Simterra and the universe of my Sims stories, I figured if I want to do a rewrite, (pardon my language), why the hell not? I am blazing my own trail. Haha. Life is too short to do otherwise.
Livin’ A Simmin’ Life will receive a mega overhaul. I plan to change several things…
- Update CC to mimic/reflect their later life state
- Update my Simselfie’s parents, siblings, and extended family
- Make changes to her childhood/teen years/and very early adulthood – chiefly, locations, some name updates, economic status, etc.
- I have some amazing new mods to add more personality, drama, flavor, and all around interesting things to my games and the plot
- Rebrand the story to fit within the Alliance of Magic series (more below)
- Add consistency to the plot and current worldbuilding – there are things happening in Parker’s story that do not make sense based on what happened in Lizzie’s.
After Dark at Everglow Academy will be released first, then I will re-release a rebranded/rewritten version of Livin’ A Simmin’ Life (possibly with a different title).
I promise the following:
- If you submitted a Sim for the first version of this story, your Sim will still be present in the rewrite.
- I will do my absolute best to keep your Sim’s appearance, personality, life choices, etc. as close to the original story as possible.
- I DO NOT plan to change Lizzie’s spouse or kids (adopted and natural born) later in life. After all, then I wouldn’t have Parker… and she’s my “heiress” and main character for Crescent Moon Conspiracy when I eventually start writing that story once again.
Things I haven’t decided yet… whether I’ll…
- Tell the story in TS3 (loads of options, more worlds, more supernaturals, and more fine control over world/lot customization, no need to worry about constant updates/mods breaking)
- OR Tell the story in TS4 (Faster load times, more current game, mods/cc bonus, and current home for Parker’s story, consistency with character appearances, possibly more motivation for me to play with the quicker style gameplay… haha!)
- AND if I’ll do a casting call (with/for supernatural townies, high school students, and faculty) – would you like the opportunity to submit Sims in either TS3/TS4? Does it matter? If it doesn’t, I promise. I won’t be offended.

Rebranding
Why do I want to rebrand as part of the Alliance of Magic Series? Two reasons:
1) I always planned on writing a prequel – After Dark at Everglow Academy. Lizzie would attend a supernatural high school so it just fits well into the AOM theme and series, and
2) It’s not really a traditional legacy anymore. I’ve decided maybe I can’t do traditional legacies. It’s just not in my blood. It’s not my style. I need to embrace what I am and how I best write. I hope you can undertand.
I WILL write/release the prequel here on THIS blog. This site is the original home for Lizzie’s story and will stay that way. Don’t worry if you’re not already following me over on my Dark Universe Sims WordPress.

My First (Interim) Project
Before I jump into Lizzie’s story, I want to start with something a little less ambitious. My Life with Criminals (MLC), formerly Colt Family Traitacy, was intended to be a multi-generational story, a legacy, with a featured trait every generation. But then the Rackets happened. Quite unexpectedly. And I just couldn’t let them go.
Instead of overwhelming myself by returning to my original plan – there are 63 base game traits alone in TS3 (TAKE THAT, TS4!), I decided I would revamp this story, give it a face lift, a new name (My Life with Criminals is so much more compelling and fitting for this story), and try a frame story of sorts.
For those of you who have been with me since my early days of SimLit, you may recall another story of mine with the title: My Life with Criminals. I’ve decided to co-opt this name for Rachel’s story. For those of you who have read this story before, there won’t be too many differences, but I do hope to improve upon the writing. Maybe someday I’ll continue with the next generation’s story, but until then, enjoy the rewrite/re-release of Rachel’s story.
Some Concluding Thoughts
I’m alive. I’m mostly well. I’m safe. I’m hoping to write as I have time and enjoy the natural, whimsical, lackadaisical style of writing I seem to have, letting go of all pressure and expectations and plans. If anything, this scary bout with illness has taught me, it’s that life is short. Let’s make the most of it now! I’m spending more and more time offline with family and friends and just playing the Sims games for fun.
I hope I don’t disappoint my readers too much, but this is where I am right now. I hope to return to other Sim stories of mine in the future, and maybe I’ll start another one or two in here. I have loads of ideas, per usual, rolling around in my head. Until then, please stay safe and be well!
